Rewrite
- Creating a new manuscript or parts of a manuscript on the basis of content and research supplied by the author.

 
Developmental Editing - Clarifying or reorganizing a manuscript for content and structure, polishing language, and providing suggestions on character and/or scene development.
 
Developmental Editing w/ proofreading – Includes all of the above for developmental editing, with the proofreading service being performed after all changes have been incorporated by the author.  
 
Copy/Line Editing - Editing for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and proper word usage; improving phrasing and organization to make the writing more effective.
 
Copy/Line Editing w/ proofreading - Includes all of the above for copy/line editing, with the proofreading service being performed after all changes have been incorporated by the author.  
 
Proofreading - Checking previously edited material for the correction of minor, mechanical errors in copy, such as spelling, punctuation, and consistency in grammar.
 
Typesetting - Creating a formatted document from an electronic manuscript according to a designer’s instructions or a style template. PDF file will be provided, as well.
 
Typing – Creating an electronic file from handwritten text.

 

Résumé Proofreading   Correction of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting. Five page limit.

 

Fees

 
Rates vary depending on the type of project and level of editing needed. If you’re interested in receiving a rate sheet, please click the Request Rate Sheet button on the homepage or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. For those seeking an expedited service, there will be a fee of one and a half times the price listed on the rate sheet. Please provide a desired completion date when inquiring about our expedited service in order for it to be determined if the deadline can be met.  
 
Payment
 
Half of the balance will be due at the time of submitting the literary work. After notice of service completion, the client has seven (7) days in which to tender final payment. After seven (7) days of failure to make payment, late fees will be accessed according to what is written in the contract.  For those unable to put down a 50% deposit towards the balance, bi-weekly or monthly payments can be arranged. However, any assignment totaling $500 or less must be paid in full upon the signing of the contract and the submission of the work to be edited.
 
Acceptable forms of payment are checks and money orders payable to Carla M. Dean. Credit card payments made via PayPal are also accepted for an additional fee. Bounced checks will result in a $35.00 fee being added to the balance due, and the editor has the right to refuse accepting checks in the future.
 
Submission Guidelines
 
Manuscripts must adhere to the following format:
  • Created in Microsoft Word, unless submitting handwritten text to be typed
  • Page size: 8.5" x 11"
  • Double-spaced with 1” margins on all sides
  • 12-point font in Times New Roman, Arial, or Courier
